HAPPY WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH!

We had the pleasure of attending many events this month to celebrate Women's empowerment for all ages. Check out some of the highlights!

SKILLS ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION

This Celebration Event was designed especially for young women in Grades 10–12 who are curious about careers in the skilled trades and technologies. Through engaging, hands-on activities, students learned about a wide range of career pathways and connected with inspiring skilled trades ambassadors.

SKILLS ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY BREAKFAST

A catered breakfast and four keynote speakers who shared what Give to Gain means in their lives and communities. From lifting up others, to sharing knowledge, to creating opportunities that help everyone rise.

WE BUILD A DREAM POWER & PURPOSE SUMMIT

A national conference bringing together 300 leaders from industry, government, labour, community, and women with lived experience to shape what's next for Canada's economy and workforce.

This year AutoCate is celebrating women's history by highlighting some women-owned businesses in Ontario. But don't worry if you didn't have time to be one of our features, we support our fellow entrepren-HERs year-round!

FUN FACTS!

Did you know that windshield wipers, GPS, and brake pads (among many others) were designed or invented by women? These Bold Broads paved the road for the modern vehicles we operate every day!

Bertha Benz (Yes, THAT Benz), When the vehicle's wooden brakes failed, Bertha asked a cobbler to install leather replacements, creating the first set of replacement brake pads.

While touring New York City in a trolley car on a snowy day in the early 1900s, Mary Anderson conceived her idea of a windshield wiper blade that could be operated from the inside by the trolley driver.

"I felt proud of myself as a woman, knowing that I can do what I can do. But as a black woman, that's another level where you have to prove to a society that hasn't accepted you for what you are." she told The Guardian. "There is no difference in the work we can do." - Gladys West, helped create GPS
